Green: the Hippest Color in the Crayon Box + Thrift Stores Galore!

6 Feb

If you’re anything like us (or even if you’re not) the phrase ‘day off’ sends a tingly burst of excitement through your nervous system. This is especially true when our days off fall on the same day. These extra jolt worthy days are always packed full of totally fun adventure(s) and this week’s ‘no work today’ excursion was no exception.

Complete with giant coffees, a little shopping, braving the arctic like conditions for a photo shoot wearing next to nothing, an abandoned church with green doors and orange windows, and hours of baking and champagne… It’s ok to be a little jealous! We know our days RULE in a major way.

What rules even more though, is the supertrend taking over the world in the form of planet saving water bottles, shopping bags and light bulbs. GREEN LIVING has become the twenty-first century’s answer to Captain Planet and we dig it.

Here is our list of GREEN tips, inspired by the best day of our weeks.

1. Use dry erase markers and your bathroom mirrors to communicate with your roomies (as seen above). This one is totally easy and totally fun. Paper notes are so out, not only are you killing sweet little trees they also tend to get lost. So put your love notes in marker form!

*This tip is also perfect for remembering the night before on the morning after one of those killer house parties we know you throw. Just make sure your guests know to keep the writings on the mirror not the wall.

2. A while ago SURFING Rulebook tweeted ‘The greenest surfboards are actually yellow because they are old.’ I had to represent this one hard with a RT (retweet, for all you twitter virgins out there). If you’ve seen my board you know that it is a far cry from the shiny new toys covering the beaches during hurricane season and I like it that way! Not only was this board cheap, but its recycled and it absolutely does the job!

3. LAST BUT NOT LEAST! This one is obvious and probably a beloved past time for many of you out there, but just a quick reminder… Thrifting is the greenest way to shop! (It’s also the easiest way to keep your look original and creative). Here are a few of our favorites shops to check out coast to coast.
